Performing at the Festival

NCYCAC invites numerous artists each year to participate in the annual Festival.

We offer several levels of performance opportunities:

  • 7-minute Krithi Slot

  • 15-minute Short Solo

  • 30-minute Mini Concert

  • 1-hour Feature Concert

  • 1.5 hour Main Concert

The 7, 15, 30, and 1-hour slots are designed to promote in-state talent. We require the main artists of these concerts to be in-state participants and give preference to in-state accompanists as much as possible

MAIN/SOLO ARTISTS:

  • Recordings with accompaniment are preferred, especially for longer slots

ACCOMPANIMENT ARTISTS:

  • You can accompany a recording instead of a live accompaniment, preferably from a teacher/friend

*Note for Manodharmam (Neraval/Kalpana Swarams): someone else can be there to pause/unpause the recording

  • If that isn’t feasible, then you may provide a recording accompanying just the song and playing separate swarams/alapana/neraval for that song (not as accompaniment). Please submit this as one recording.

  • Please ensure that the recording you accompany is audible

  • If you are unable to find or get a recording to accompany, please reach out to us and we will do our best to help with that

Please keep in mind that there is always an option to send a previous year's recording, either from a past festival or another program/concert. Ultimately, the selections will be based on the quality of the recording over whether or not it is live. Second, we have made important changes to the audition/selection process as a whole. As a part of this, we have created a new set of detailed and more objective guidelines for judging audition submissions. The updated rubric is attached to this email and is also on the NCYCAC website for reference. If you are unsure about any part of the new rubric, please feel free to reach out to us. As a reminder, audition submissions for performing at NCYCAC 2023 are NOW due on May 20th. Should anything change, please keep an eye on updates from us. Thanks to those who have already applied, and we greatly appreciate your patience throughout all of this!

In-State Artists

In-state artists can apply for 7, 15, 30-minute, and 1 hour performances.

The updated rubric for the evaluation of audition tapes can be found below.

All decisions made by the programming committee are FINAL. Due to the limited number of slots and a large number of applicants, we may find it necessary to offer a slot that is shorter in duration than the slot that you applied for, and we cannot provide an opportunity for everyone who applies.

In-state artists cannot apply for a 1-hour feature and 1.5-hour main concerts. These slots are invite-only.

NCYCAC invites high-level out-of-town artists to perform in our 1-hour feature and 1.5-hour main-level slots. We hope that these out-of-town artists can serve as inspiration to the local youth.  At this time, we do not accept applications from out-of-town artists: the out-of-town slots are decided by invitation only. However, we have an interest form for out-of-state artists here, who would like to be considered to perform at NCYCAC 2024.
